Dewlap Toulouse Geese

At Waterloo Mountain Farm, our Dewlap Toulouse geese serve an important role as part of our flock. While they are often thought of simply as large, ornamental birds, we value them as natural deterrents and watchful members of the farm system.

As the largest domestic goose breed, their sheer size alone is enough to give many aerial predators pause. Hawks and other opportunistic hunters that might otherwise take an interest in our “sitting ducks” tend to think twice when a pair of full-grown geese is nearby!

Built for Presence

Dewlap Toulouse are known for their impressive size, deep bodies, and characteristic “dewlap” under the chin. They are slow-growing, heavy birds that carry themselves with a calm, steady presence. They are more watchful than frantic, which suits their role on the farm.

Not Your Typical “Spicy” Goose

Geese have a well-earned reputation for being a little… assertive. And while that can certainly be true for some breeds, Dewlap Toulouse are generally considered one of the most docile and easygoing domestic geese.

That said, they’re far from boring. Each bird has its own quirks and personality, and they are surprisingly expressive and aware of what’s going on around them. They tend to be calm and tolerant, especially when raised with regular human interaction, but they still carry that classic goose “confidence” when it counts.

Hatching Eggs

We periodically offer Dewlap Toulouse goose hatching eggs for local pickup.

Because geese are seasonal layers and we are a small farm, availability is limited and dependent on the time of year.

Details:

  • Local pickup in Cotopaxi, Colorado

  • Eggs are collected fresh and handled with care

  • Availability varies with the laying season, which is usually April-May.
